DONALD TRUMP: Impeached Again

The single article of impeachment cites Trump's speech at the "Stop the Steal" rally on January 6th as incitement to insurrection. He becomes the first-ever President to be impeached twice.

TeeRoy's 2 Cents:

  • Even if a Senate trial can't happen before Trump leaves, it's important. One, it could keep him from seeking office again. Two, it forces Senators to go on the record about their support for him.
  • I'm not interested in anyone's pleas for national unity if they're unwilling to acknowledge that Joe Biden won a free and fair election.
  • There's a week left. There's no point to this, other than grandstanding.
  • Trump released a statement today asking people to remain peaceful during the transition. Let's see if his supporters actually listen.

As expected, the House has voted to impeach President Trump. He is now the first U.S. president to be impeached twice.

Although the vote was largely along party lines, prominent Republican Liz Cheney of Wyoming was among the handful of GOP representatives who voted with Democrats. The final vote was 232 to 197, with 10 Republicans voting for impeachment.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has said that he will not join Chuck Schumer in recalling the Senate from recess, so the earliest the trial could start is January 19th -- the day before Trump leaves office. (USA Today)
