JAY-Z Explains "Money Phone" Line, Future Responds

In an interview with Rap Radar, JAY-Z explained his "Money Phone" line (Y'all holdin' money to your ear / There's a disconnect, we don't call that money over here) on his song "The Story Of O.J." that slammed rappers posting photos of money up to their ear on social media.

“I didn’t even tell people to stop using the money phone,” Hov said. “I didn’t say that. I had to listen again like ‘How is this being misinterpreted?’ because I just said it ain’t money to us. It ain’t. That’s just an honest statement.”

"Money to us, me and my three friends on the floor at Golden State, not because the seats are expensive but because that’s what we’re doing, you’ve never seen that," he said. "Or, building brands and pushing it forward. That can’t be the end all, that can’t be our goal, to get money and show it on the Internet. That can’t be our goal, that’s some corny s**t."

Future responded to the quote on Twitter, saying "Same money u get we gettin too"

Hov also talked about his line aimed at Future on his new album, saying, “I really don’t mean any malice…I’m not discrediting all step-pops in the world. It was a line to say, that could happen to me in my future,” he said. “It just so happened that his name was Future, and then I just made a scheme out of it. I wasn’t trying to put Future down. We just made a song together, I don’t have any problems with him.”

Drake, Boosie, Future and more felt defensive over JAY-Z's "Money Phone" and all responded on social media.
